The President of JMP Consulting, Ltd. is Joseph M. Porto, Ed.D., a practicing educator with over 33 years of experience in public education.  Dr. Porto’s past positions span the entire spectrum of educational roles, including elementary teacher, middle school assistant principal, elementary principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent of schools.  This extensive and varied experience gives Dr. Porto a rich perspective and a vast knowledge-base for all educational challenges.

For the past 16 years, Dr. Porto served as a superintendent of two highly successful school districts in the Chicago suburban area.  There, he has gained a strong reputation as a visionary leader and a highly skilled practitioner.  Dr. Porto’s school districts are “lighthouse” districts that have garnered local and national recognition in a number of arenas, including use of educational technology, innovative strategic planning, continuous improvement in student learning, excellence in science education, creative school master schedules and teaming structures and inclusive delivery of special education services.  These accomplishments are the direct result of Dr. Porto’s ability to work collaboratively with school board members, administrators, teachers, staff members, parents and community members.

Dr. Porto has extensive expertise in facilitating a district strategic planning process that blends traditional strategic planning with author Jim Collins’ concepts from the influential book, Good to Great.  Similarly, the same facilitation skills enabled Dr. Porto to create several award-winning educational technology plans over the past 16 years.  In addition, Dr. Porto consults with school boards and districts on a wide array of topics, including but not limited to: referendum campaigns, leadership mentoring, school board governance, district climate and culture surveys and school board-superintendent relations.

Dr. Porto is also a part-time Assistant Professor at Loyola University in Chicago, where he teaches leadership courses in the graduate school for educational administration.  He has published several articles and is a regular presenter at national education conferences.
